Ryan T. Johnson
Associate

Ryan is a trial lawyer practicing in the areas of professional liability (e.g., architects, engineers, and surveyors), construction and commercial litigation. Admitted to the Illinois bar in 2003, Ryan tried and won his first jury trial only months out of law school. Since, he has successfully tried numerous cases in state and federal courts as well as in arbitration proceedings. Ryan's personable yet competitive nature has made him an extremely effective litigator on behalf of both corporate and individual clients.

Short of trial, Ryan regularly achieves outstanding, timely and cost effective results for his clients. Some of his recent notable cases are as follows:

  • Achieved summary judgment on behalf a national engineering firm in a matter involving the deaths of 3 people and injuries to 3 others. This litigation involved allegations of improper facilities design on one of Illinois' toll roads. Subsequent to a demand in excess of $13 million dollars, Ryan prepared all summary judgment pleadings and successfully argued the motion before the Cook County district court. The trial court's ruling was later affirmed on appeal.
  • Obtained a significant financial settlement on behalf of a contractor supply company that had become the victim of theft and fraud. The defendant in this litigation met Ryan's settlement demand just prior to the beginning of jury selection.
  • Secured a dismissal with prejudice of a suit against an engineering firm accused of malpractice with respect to a land development project. The alleged damages were in excess of $1 million dollars.
  • In a matter involving allegations of negligence on behalf of an engineering client, Ryan was able to negotiate a settlement for less than 2% of the alleged damages. The settlement was reached just prior to the commencement of arbitration hearings and after Ryan had submitted his defense submission.
  • Subsequent to deposing the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed against an engineering company for work on an Illinois' toll road, Ryan was able to negotiate a settlement of less than 1% of the alleged damages.
  • In a law suit filed against an elevator contractor for personal injuries, Ryan secured a settlement with the plaintiff for less than 2% or her alleged damages. The settlement was agreed to immediately after Ryan had deposed the plaintiff.

In addition to his work at the trial court level, Ryan is also an accomplished appellate attorney, having not lost an appeal to date.
