The attorneys at Crisham & Kubes, Ltd. have extensive experience in and successful representation of architects, contractors, developers, structural/professional engineers, surveyors, owners and their insurers in the area of Construction Law, including all aspects of the design and construction process, from conceptual design for the raw land to the demolition of aged structures. This practice area includes the counseling and representation of clients on disputes and litigation involving improper design, construction defects, financially distressed projects/project closeout financial disputes, catastrophic construction phase injury/death claims, disability/accessibility code compliance, warranty claims, product failures, mold/asbestos contamination, mechanic’s lien litigation, IDFPR administrative investigations/hearings on professional licensure violations and a seemingly endless list of other construction law matters.

Jeff Kubes has a national reputation in the representation of clients in the area of Construction Law. Jeff, in conjunction with Fitz Dunne, Tom Mulcahy, and Jean Prendergast, regularly conduct seminars and author articles for periodicals relating to construction law and risk management. Jeff also has substantial active involvement in various organizations dealing with the construction industry by chairing committees and participating as an active attendee at national annual meetings, frequent technical committee work, authoring articles on timely issues affecting members and the like, for national groups including the American Institute of Architects-Chicago, the American Institute of Architects-Illinois, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Association of Licensed Architects, the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys, and the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois. Jeff and other attorneys of the firm have given back to the industry through performance of endless hours of pro bono service in the performance of risk management seminars, as well as the development of amicus appellate briefs in state and federal courts on issues of national import to the interests of these industry groups. Tom Crisham was a contributing author to Architect and Engineer Liability: Claims Against Design Professionals.

The firm’s Construction Law practice has also created opportunities for the representation of owners, developers, contractors of all tiers and design professional firms in a wide variety of commercial disputes in alternative dispute and litigation venues. These matters include all aspects of real estate development subsequent to closing of the purchase, including mechanics lien claims, ownership/warranty matters, financial disputes and all other aspects of failed construction projects.
